I'm feeling hopeful about National Novel Writing Month this year. The kids are asleep or in bed reading by about eight, consistently. I should be able to type on a laptop rather than my phone (which really hampers writing, although I will miss some of the autocorrect). I'm trying to spend time this month warming up as a writer and planning what I'll write. It's tempting to embark on a new story, just to bang it out and go for the 50k. But it's also tempting to use the challenge to get back into one of my unfinished stories. I really miss Eden and her gang... My ultimate goal is to create a practice of writing, which I imagine I'll begin sharing online... Just to practice and improve. I've set up a cozy writing corner in my own space. So no matter what story I take up, it's a new adventure for me as I move into a season of life with more independent kids!

Plumbers (calling for the third time to fix one issue, which was the second of two this month).
(And that's not even mentioning the dryer that's breaking and laundry I did not do because I need to observe it when it goes through the dryer and did I mention...)
Dealing with multiple insurance claims issues (second round in a month of insurance refusing to pay for things my kids need because of some random age restriction that baffles everyone).
Spiders (at least they waited to the end of a big courtyard clean out and pruning to present themselves... In the hundreds.)
Kids counting to one hundred... Two hundred...
Kids giggling over Mr Tumnus.
Kids creating a zoo of stuffed animals and telling me, exasperated, how every time they try to get work done in their office an animal calls to have its territory cleaned.
Kids creating a family tree.
Kids creating autumnal art.
Kids asking to do the same one science experiment they love and settling for water colors.
Kids listening to Stephen Fry reading Paddington.
Watermelon for dessert.

I don't want to attempt a big here we go again post. I want to start writing regularly (NaNoWriMo is just around the corner and my stage of life is finally affording me a solid if occasional hour) so I'm just going to jump in with trivialities, which are really the big stuff around here.
1) Sophie finally asked the final question...how exactly does this step in the baby-making process take place? And a determinedly straight-faced answer was met with a follow-up question. I told her I'd tell her when Nate wasn't hanging on our every word.
2) Nate counted to 100 (he's been interested for about a week) with prompting. He was gleeful.
3) They are now eating pasta with slightly hidden squash and plotting the family tree they decided to make.
And so on and so forth. Looking forward to journaling and writing stories here (on my phone mostly because every computer we own is dying) (along with my paper notebooks stashed around the house.)
